Dr. Nicholas Chang

Chief Scientific Officer, Altio Labs

Dr. Nicholas Chang joined Altio Labs as a Chief Scientific Officer in September 2025. His interests include autonomous radio frequency (RF) systems, wireless communications, sensing, and electronic warfare. Prior to joining Altio Labs, Dr. Chang was a Program Manager in the Defense Sciences Office and Strategic Technology Offices at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). While at DARPA, he led multiple programs covering topics including next generation electronic surveillance systems, reconfigurable RF hardware, machine learning for unmanned aerial vehicles, optimization of ground base defense using electromagnetic countermeasures, wideband sensor fusion, quantum sensing, and wireless communications.

Dr. Chang was formerly a Director at Peraton Labs in the Wireless Systems and Networks Department and a Technical Staff member in the Advanced Sensor Techniques Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. In these positions, he led programs on multiple topic areas including multi-function RF systems using machine learning, advanced signal processing technologies, and open architecture systems.

Dr. Chang received the B.S.E.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University, and the M.S. degree in Mathematics, and M.S.E and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering: Systems from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
